This model isn't one of those models, though.

A part of that is because the bass's bridge is normally already almost to the edge of the body, so the only length missing is the headstock. To that, I will say that headless basses look more "normal" because their overall length is more like a traditional guitar, while a headless guitar can look "small". Ha!īut other than that, there are only a few cons: No headstock to break off *cough*gibson*cough*. In that way, it's more stable with tuning since it'll flex less since there's nothing pulling at the far end of the longer "lever" of the headstock. You know how you can easily bend or break a new pencil, but the shorter the pencil is, the harder it is to bend or break? The headless neck is, like, 6-8" shorter without that headstock.

Compact, while playing: A headless is amazing for cramped stages and rehearsal spaces. They stay-put on your lap, and on a strap. Weight: It's not unheard of for an 8-string headless with a maple neck-through and ebony fretboard to be under 6lbs.You gotta always wanna pick up your guitar and play it first and foremost haha. If the guitar is just ugly to you - don’t worry about going headless. All in all I think the biggest tradeoff to consider is weight, comfortability, portability, and general aesthetic. And restringing I’d say is faster than a standard guitar with the exception of locking tuners like bigpizza87 mentioned. A fixed bridge - the tuning stability is pretty fantastic but not dissimilar to a standard guitar. If I’m being honest it’s not always the easiest if you have a tremolo arm. Compare a Delos to a Headless Delos and you’ll see what I mean. I don’t think a traditional Les Paul would ever look good without a headstock - but I have a Zeus and I think they are beautiful.Ī beautiful thing about headless guitars is that the tuners have to be located at the end of the guitar body so it actually makes the entire guitar more compact.

They add unnecessary weight, get banged up easily, they make the guitar have more mass… All that said it does depend on the body type. I’m sure there was a time when I thought they were ugly but nowadays I find most headstocks to be atrocious by comparison. to Japan to Guam easily! It was actually alot smaller than most people’s bags haha.Ĭoncerning the original post - lately I’ve been finding that I don’t ever want to go back to guitars with headstocks. Can confirm that the softshell case traveled with me on the overhead from U.S.
